The symptoms are a reason to test. They are not a diagnosis, and they overlap with iron, sleep, and depression.
Colder than the room, a slower gut, heavier periods, dry skin, hair in the brush, a puffy face, weight that crept without a matching change in food, low mood. Mild cases look like ordinary exhaustion. A quiz that checks every box still needs a lab.
Hashimoto's, surgery, and radioactive iodine are common reasons the gland falls behind. So is a medicine you started and quit. Tell that story. 'I think it's my thyroid' is a hypothesis.
TSH and free T4 are the spine. Free T3 and TPO antibodies earn a place when the story suggests Hashimoto's or the TSH and the symptoms disagree. Biotin can distort some assays. Mention it.
A lump, trouble swallowing, or neck pain needs an exam and often an ultrasound where you live. Hormone replacement does not evaluate a nodule. Pregnancy makes dose changes time-sensitive. Do not wait on a routine refill for that.
