Primary & Urgent Care
Virtual primary care relationships and labs.
An online primary care doctor is a clinician you can see by video for ongoing problems, prevention questions, and labs, without pretending a camera can listen to your lungs as well as a stethoscope. Use it for the care it can do. Keep a local option for the care it cannot.
The first visit collects medicines, allergies, the specialists you already have, and what fell apart the last time you changed clinics. Later visits should not start from zero. If they do, say so.
Labs are ordered to a draw site near you. You should know which results need a call and which can wait for the portal. 'Everything was fine' with no numbers is not good enough if you are adjusting thyroid, blood pressure, or a GLP-1.
Many people keep a local doctor for physicals and use Thrivelab for hormones, weight, or the visit they can never get scheduled. That works if both sides know the medicines. Tell each about the other. A hidden prescriber is how doses collide.
Vaccines, pap smears, and a foot exam for diabetes happen in person. We will not wave those away because the rest of the visit was convenient.
A lot of prevention is not hands at all: reviewing which screenings you are due for, ordering the labs, reading blood pressure you track at home, updating the medication list, and deciding what actually needs an in-person appointment. A video clinician who knows your chart can quarterback that without you guessing what to book.
The parts that need a room, a mammogram, a colonoscopy, a foot exam for diabetes, a pap, still need a room, and a good online doctor tells you plainly which ones and when. Convenience is not a reason to skip the exam; it is a reason to make sure the exam that matters actually gets scheduled.
The everyday work of primary care is refills that make sense, doses that get adjusted to labs, and stopping a drug that outlived its reason. Done on video, it works when both the clinician and the pharmacy have the same list and the same plan. Done badly, it is a stranded prescription and a missed recheck.
Blood pressure, thyroid, and a GLP-1 all move on numbers, not vibes. If a visit ends with 'everything was fine' and no values, ask for the numbers. Managing a chronic medicine without seeing the trend is flying blind with a friendly voice.
Treatment is provided through Jonathan Larson MDPC. Prescriptions require a clinical evaluation; medication is dispensed only when deemed medically necessary. Information here is educational and not a substitute for medical advice.
