Weight Loss
Common, less-common, and serious side effects to know.
Semaglutide side effects are mostly gastrointestinal: nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and feeling full to the point of discomfort. Some are a reason to adjust the plan. A few are a reason to get local urgent care and then call your clinician. This page is the map. It is not a complete drug label.
Nausea is the headliner. Smaller meals, less grease, and not lying down immediately after eating help a lot of people. They do not help everyone. Constipation is the quiet one that makes the scale lie and makes you miserable. Fluids and fiber are the first lever. A clinician can talk about more than that if the first lever fails.
Fatigue in the first weeks is common enough to mention. So is a metallic or absent interest in food. If you are not eating protein because nothing sounds good, say so. That is how people lose strength and call it success.
Severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, signs of dehydration, or a reaction that involves swelling or trouble breathing is not a portal message. Use urgent or emergency care where you live. The GLP-1 can wait.
Tell the Thrivelab clinician after you are safe. A plan should change after an event like that, not resume by habit.
History matters: pancreas, gallbladder, stomach disease, pregnancy or plans for pregnancy, other medicines that slow the gut, and any GLP-1 you already use. This is not a full list of reasons to avoid the drug. It is the kind of history that changes the visit.
If you hide a history because you want the prescription, you are taking on a risk the clinician cannot see. The form is not a negotiation.
Eat slowly. Stop at comfortable, not at empty-plate. Keep a water bottle where you work. If constipation is building, do not wait two weeks to mention it.
Dose changes are the clinician's call. Taking more because a friend did, or taking less every other week to 'make it last,' produces side effects and confusion. Follow what was prescribed and report what happened.
The habit that keeps GLP-1 side effects from becoming a crisis is unglamorous: report them early, in plain language, before they compound. Constipation mentioned in week one is a simple fix; constipation endured for two weeks becomes misery that makes the scale lie and the whole plan feel like a mistake. The follow-up exists precisely so small problems get handled while they are still small.
There is a cultural pull to treat suffering as proof the medicine is working, and it is worth naming so you can ignore it. Not eating because nothing sounds good, pushing through vomiting, or white-knuckling a dose that feels wrong are not signs of progress, they are signals to call. A plan that adjusts to how you actually feel is the one that lasts.
Treatment is provided through Jonathan Larson MDPC. Prescriptions require a clinical evaluation; medication is dispensed only when deemed medically necessary. Information here is educational and not a substitute for medical advice.
